THOMAS, DANIEL

Account Book, 1853-1871.

1 item

Daniel Thomas was born in North Wales in 1827.  In 1848, at the age of 20, he sailed from Liverpool to Boston.  From Boston he moved to New York for a brief period, finally settling in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, where he worked in a slate quarry.  In 1851 he married Sarah Custart.  He apparently also farmed on a small scale.  The collection consists of a single account book covering the years 1853-1871.  In addition to financial transactions of various sorts, the book includes poems in Welsh and English (it is not clear whether Thomas wrote them), and household receipts.  The collection was donated by Carmen Valentino in 1981.
